As your voice in Community Cycling, Bicycle SA is here to advocate for you. But we can’t do it alone, we need your support. Bicycle SA participates in a range of state and local Government working groups, forums and discussions and contributes to the state cycling strategy for new infrastructure projects and more.
One of the most important things you can do as a cyclist is provide support or feedback on any plans by local or state governments to build infrastructure in your area.
When government representatives call for community feedback on issues and/or projects, it is best that you take the time to respond. It is also worth sharing it with your friends and family and encourage them to also have a say.
If you have any concerns around the safety of a particular road or notice damage to existing infrastructure in your area, the best place to start is by reporting it to either your local council or your Member of Parliament.
We also suggest that you take the time to acknowledge the good work our councils and state government do. Often a positive comment on their social media platform is a good start. Or you can even write a letter to your local Mayor and councillors thanking them for the work they are doing for cycling.
People often ask us questions about how to get more bike infrastructure in their area. Unfortunately, it’s not always a straightforward answer, however, we do know we are stronger when we all work together as a community.
Following the consultation already undertaken and further community feedback on the Mike Turtur Bikeway Overpass, construction will not start until further consultation is undertaken with the broader community. This consultation will include the establishment of a Community Reference Group to ensure the views of the local community, and other likely users of the proposed overpass are better understood.
The Encounter Bikeway is a 31.5km multi-purpose trail that follows the spectacular coastline between Victor Harbor and Goolwa. It is a popular attraction on the Fleurieu Peninsula and provides a premier coastal riding and walking experience to the community.
The City of Victor Harbor is seeking feedback on proposed options for realignment of the Encounter Bikeway from Hindmarsh Road to the council boundary.
